What are veterinary professionals?

Veterinary professionals are credentialed & seasoned technicians/nurses, vet assistants, kennel attendants and animal caretakers. They’re board certified veterinarians and specialists. And most importantly, veterinary professionals are human.

For many of us, the vet industry can be a desensitizing work experience. We love our job because we love our patients, but putting the needs of everyone else before our own easily becomes the norm. We’re often too stressed to notice we’re overstimulated, dehydrated, malnourished. It often feels impossible to follow the boundaries we planned to set or keep promises to take better care of ourselves. Even when our bodies are screaming at us, how often do we continue these patterns?

A Ripple Effect

VETERINARY HUMANS is an initiative that focuses on community-based team care, rather than individual self care. A ripple effect takes place when a person tends to another.

We’ve all heard the: “Eat healthy, drink water, get 8-10 hours of sleep, meditate often, journal daily, go to therapy” rhetoric. While these are all great goals, self care can only get us so far. We require community to thrive and a big aspect of that community tends to fall within the walls of our workplace.

The longevity of our career depends on a perspective shift.

Out with individualism! In with INTERDEPENDENCE! Our industry depends on strong, vulnerable humans. We cannot carry on, being desensitized to our basic needs. When we choose community, we let go of individualism, the “every man for himself” ideology.

It’s silly to expect a stress-free existence, because stress is a inevitable part of our daily lives.

It’s our gentle reminder that we’re human above all else.
